Steering - VGRS Initialization Procedure
PRE-DELIVERY SERVICEPD065-06
Title:
INITIALIZATION OF VGRS SYSTEM
DURING PDS
Models:
'07 LX 470
August 18, 2006
Introduction
This bulletin describes the initialization procedure for the Variable Gear Ratio Steering (VGRS) system.
The Short Pin is removed at the assembly plant to reduce parasitic current draw from the battery during transport and storage. As a result of the removal of the Short Pin, the VGRS system will be inoperative and the steering wheel may be off-center.
After the Short Pin is installed, the VGRS system will be operative, but the steering wheel may remain off-center by 5 - 10 degrees to the right or left. This condition may also appear when the battery terminal has been disconnected.
Initialize the VGRS system following the procedure in this bulletin after installing the Short Pin or when reconnecting the battery terminal.
NOTE:
Do NOT adjust the steering wheel centering (i.e., do NOT adjust tie rod ends) before initialization of the VGRS system, or the steering may be off-center on the opposite side after initialization.
Applicable Vehicles
^ 2007 model year LX 470 vehicles.

Initialization Procedure
1. Make sure the Short Pin has been installed to its original location (refer to TSIB No. PD061-06, "Short Pin Installation During PDS").
2. Turn the ignition switch to the "ON" position and check that the VGRS and VSC/TRAC warning lights illuminate for a few seconds.
NOTE:
If the warning lights remain ON or blink, repair the applicable system according to the Repair Manual.
3. Drive the vehicle on a straight road at 22 mph (35 km/h) or more for 5 seconds or longer.
At this point, the steering wheel will still remain off-center by 5 - 10 degrees.
HINT:
In this step, the neutral position of the steering wheel is recorded in the VGRS ECU memory.
4. Perform normal cornering 2-3 times.
HINT:
The steering wheel position is automatically corrected in this step.
NOTE:
If the steering wheel remains off-center after the above procedure, repair the VGRS system according to the 2007 LX 470 Repair Manual.
