STEERING COLUMN: POWER TILT AND POWER TELESCOPIC STEERING COLUMN SYSTEM: B2610: Tilt Position Sensor or Tilt Motor Circuit Malfunction

DTC B2610 - Tilt Position Sensor or Tilt Motor Circuit Malfunction

DESCRIPTION

Tilt motor is operated by the power voltage supplied from the multiplex tilt and telescopic ECU and makes the steering column tilt upward and downward. Tilt position sensor (hall IC) in the tilt motor detects the tilt of the steering column and outputs the signal to the CPU in response to that tilt.

HINT: Limit positions can be confirmed on the screen of Techstream.

INSPECTION PROCEDURE

PROCEDURE

1. PERFORM ACTIVE TEST USING TECHSTREAM

(a) Connect Techstream to DLC3.
(b) Turn the ignition switch to ON and push Techstream main switch ON.
(c) Select the item "Tilt Operation" in the Active Test, and operate it with Techstream.
(d) Check that the steering wheel tilt up (down) when the Active Test carried out.
Standard:
Steering wheel moves upward (downward).
OK -- INSPECT MULTIPLEX TILT AND TELESCOPIC ECU (VCI TERMINAL VOLTAGE)
NG -- Continue to next step.
2. INSPECT MULTIPLEX TILT AND TELESCOPIC ECU (TIM+, TIM- TERMINAL VOLTAGE)

(a) Remove multiplex tilt and telescopic ECU with the connector being connected.
(b) Turn the ignition switch to ON.
(c) Measure the voltage between terminal TIM+ and GND, TIM- and GND of the ECU connector.
Standard voltage:

NG -- CHECK ACTUATOR POWER SOURCE CIRCUIT
OK -- Continue to next step.
3. INSPECT TILT STEERING GEAR ASSEMBLY W/MOTOR

(a) Disconnect tilt motor connector.
(b) Connect the battery positive (+) terminal to terminal TEM+ and the battery negative (-) terminal to terminal TEM- of the tilt motor connector. Then confirm that steering wheel tilt up.
Standard:
Steering wheel moves upward.

(c) Connect the battery negative (-) terminal to terminal TEM+ and the battery positive (+) terminal to terminal TEM- of the tilt motor connector. Then confirm that steering wheel tilt down.
Standard:
Steering wheel moves downward.
NG -- REPLACE TILT STEERING GEAR ASSEMBLY W/MOTOR
OK -- Continue to next step.
4. INSPECT MULTIPLEX TILT AND TELESCOPIC ECU (VCI TERMINAL VOLTAGE)

(a) Measure the voltage between terminal VCI and E1 of the ECU connector.
Standard voltage:
8 to 16 V
NG -- REPLACE MULTIPLEX TILT AND TELESCOPIC ECU
OK -- Continue to next step.
5. INSPECT TILT POSITION SENSOR (TIS TERMINAL OF ECU INPUT VOLTAGE)

(a) Measure the voltage between terminal TIS and E1 of the ECU connector.
Standard voltage:
Pulse HI
8 to 16 V
Pulse LOW
0 V
NG -- REPLACE MULTIPLEX TILT AND TELESCOPIC ECU
NG -- Continue to next step.
6. CHECK HARNESS AND CONNECTOR (TILT AND TELESCOPIC ECU - TILT POSITION SENSOR)
(a) Check for open and short circuit in the harness and the connector between the multiplex tilt and telescopic ECU and the tilt motor and position sensor Electronic Circuit Inspection Procedure.
NG -- REPAIR OR REPLACE HARNESS OR CONNECTOR
OK -- REPLACE TILT STEERING GEAR ASSEMBLY W/MOTOR
