Title: APPLICATION OF PEARL WHITE (MICA) TOUCH-UP PAINT

Lexus pearl white (mica) exterior paint (color code # 051) utilizes a three stage paint application method. A non-metallic base color is first applied over the primer, followed by a pearl coat, and finally a clear coat. This produces a translucent pearl white color that appears to sparkle as well as change color depending on the viewing angle of the paint surface.

TOUCH-UP PAINT APPLICATION:

The Pearl White paint touch-up system requires the application of two (2) types of paints. A mixture of pearl & clear (color# 051) is applied over a non-metallic base (Toyota/Lexus color # 040). Since the touch-up paint top coat is a mixture of pearl & clear, a separate application of a clear coat is not required.

To properly match the original pearl white color with touch-up paint, the following steps should be observed:

1. Wash the affected area with soap & water and wipe dry with a clean cloth or towel. Use Toyota Bug & Tar Remover (part # 00289-1BT00) to remove any wax or grease from the area (carefully follow the instructions on the container).

2. Apply the base color coat (see instructions on the paint container for proper application methods and drying time).

3. Once the base color has dried, apply the pearl/clear coal directly over the base color. Since pearl material is quite heavy and has a tendency to settle to the bottom rapidly, it is essential to shake the container vigorously before applying the pearl/clear coat.

4. Fill the void (chip, scratch etc.) with paint material until the touch-up paint is level with, or slightly above, the level of the original paint surface. Note: confirm proper paint level after the touch-up paint has dried thoroughly.

5. Once the desired paint level has been achieved, and the touch-up paint has dried, lightly wet sand the affected area with 1500 grit wet-or-dry sandpaper. Hand buff the area to a high luster with a high grade polish (available from autobody supply stores).
