Inspection Procedure Using OBDII Scan Tool

INSPECTION PROCEDURE USING OBDII SCAN TOOL

NOTE: If diagnostic trouble codes P0110, P0115, and P0120 are Output simultaneously, E2 (sensor ground) may be open.

1. Connect the OBDII scan tool and read the throttle valve opening percentage.
- Remove the fuse cover on the instrument panel.

- Connect the LEXUS hand-held tester to the Data Link Connector 3.
- Turn ignition switch ON and LEXUS hand held tester main switch ON.
- Read the throttle valve opening percentage.
- With throttle valve fully open LEXUS hand held tester should read approximately 70%.
- With throttle valve fully closed LEXUS hand held tester should read approximately 10%.
- If not OK proceed to step 2.
- If OK check for intermittent problems (loose connectors, etc.).
2. Check voltage of terminal IDL and E2 of Engine Control Module.
- Remove glove compartment.
- Turn Ignition Switch ON.

- Measure voltage between terminals IDL and E2 of Engine Control Module.

With throttle valve fully closed: 0.0 - 3.0 volts.
With throttle valve fully open: 9 - 14 volts.

- If not OK proceed to step 3.
- If OK proceed to step 5.
3. Check voltage between terminal VC of wire harness side connector and body ground.
- Disconnect the Throttle Position Sensor connector.
- Turn Ignition Switch ON.

- Measure voltage between terminal VC of wire harness side connector and body ground.

Voltage: 4.5 - 5.5 volts

- If OK proceed to step 4.
- If not OK proceed to step 6.
4. Check Throttle Position Sensor.
- Disconnect the Throttle Position Sensor connector.

- Measure resistance between terminals 4, 3 and 1 of Throttle Position Sensor.

Terminals 1 - 4 always: 4.25 - 8.25 k ohms.
Terminals 1 - 3 with throtlle valve closed: 0.3 - 6.3 k ohms.
Terminals 1 - 3 with throtlle valve open: 3.5 - 10.3 k ohms.

- If OK proceed to step 5.
- If not OK Replace Throttle Position sensor.
5. Check voltage between terminals VTA and E2 of Engine Control Module.
- Remove glove compartment.
- Turn Ignition Switch ON.

- Measure voltage between terminals VTA and E2 of Engine Control Module.

With throttle valve fully closed: 0.3 - 0.8 volts.
With throttle valve fully open: 2.7 - 5.2 volts.

- If OK check and replace Engine Control Module.
- If not OK check for open and short in harness and connector between Engine Control Module and Throttle Position Sensor (VTA line)
6. Check voltage between terminals VC and E2 of Engine Control Module.
- Remove glove compartment.
- Turn Ignition Switch ON.

- Measure voltage between terminals VC and E2 of Engine Control Module connector.

Voltage: 4.5 - 5.5 volts.

- If OK check for open in harness and connector between Engine Control Module and sensor (VC line).
- If not OK check and replace Engine Control Module.
