Inspection Procedure

INSPECTION PROCEDURE

1. Check park/neutral position switch.
- Disconnect park/neutral position switch connector.





- Check continuity between each terminal shown when the shift lever is positioned to each range.

Shift position P: continuity between terminals 6 and 5, 4 and 7.
Shift position R: continuity between terminals 4 and 8.
Shift position N: continuity between terminals 6 and 5, 4 and 10.
Shift position D: continuity between terminals 4 and 9.
Shift position 2: continuity between terminals 4 and 2.
Shift position L: continuity between terminals 4 and 3.

- If OK proceed to step 2.
- If not OK replace park/neutral position switch.
2. Check voltage between terminal NSW of Engine Control Module connector and body ground.
- Remove glove compartment.
- Turn Ignition Switch ON.





- Measure voltage between terminal NSW of Engine Control Module connector and body ground when the shift lever is positioned to the following positions.

Shift lever position P or N: 0.0 volts.
Shift lever position L, 2, D or R: 9 - 14 volts.

- If OK check and replace Engine Control Module
- If not OK check for open and short in harness and connector between Engine Control Module and park/neutral position switch.
