Starter Relay: Testing and Inspection

The starter relay is located in the engine compartment relay box.

1. Using a suitable ohmmeter, check relay continuity as follows:
a. Ensure continuity between terminal Nos. 1 and 2, Fig. 12.
b. No continuity should exist between terminal Nos. 3 and 5.
c. If continuity is not as indicated, replace relay.
2. Using suitable ohmmeter, inspect relay operation as follows:
a. Apply battery voltage across terminal Nos. 1 and 2.
b. Using suitable ohmmeter, ensure continuity exists between terminal Nos. 3 and 5.
c. If continuity is not as indicated, replace relay.
