EGR Control Solenoid: Testing and Inspection





1. REMOVE VACUUM SWITCHING VALVE (VSV).
- Disconnect the following connector and hoses:
- Connector.
- Hose (from throttle body) from port E of VSV.
- Hose (from EGR valve and vacuum modulator) from port F of VSV.
- Remove the bolt and VSV.





2. INSPECT VSV.
- Inspect VSV for open circuit.
- Using an ohmmeter, check that there is continuity between the terminals.

Resistance: 38.5 - 44.5 Ohms at 20°C (68°F)

- If there is no continuity, replace the VSV.





- Inspect VSV for ground.
- Using an ohmmeter, check that there is no continuity between each terminal and the body.
- If there is continuity, replace the VSV.





- Inspect VSV operation.
- Check that air does not flow from port E to F.





- Apply battery voltage across the terminals.
- Check that air flows from port E to F.
- If operation is not as specified, replace the VSV.





3. REINSTALL VSV.
- Install the VSV with the bolt.
- Connect the following connector and hoses:
- Connector.
- Hose (from throttle body) to port E of VSV.
- Hose (from EGR valve and vacuum modulator) to port F of VSV.
