Evaporator Case: Service and Repair
COOLING UNIT REMOVAL1. DISCHARGE REFRIGERANT FROM REFRIGERATION SYSTEM
INSTALLATION HINT: Evacuate air from refrigeration system.
Charge system with refrigerant and inspect for leakage of refrigerant.
Specified amount:
850 ± 50 g (29.98 ± 1.76 oz.)
2. REMOVE THESE PARTS:
(a) Instrument panel No. 2 under cover
(b) Glove compartment parts
(c) Front passenger door scuff plate
3. REMOVE EQUALIZER TUBE FROM EPR
Remove the bolt and the tube.
Torque: 10 N.m (100 kgf.cm, 7 ft.lbf)
INSTALLATION HINT: Lubricate a new O-ring with compressor oil and install the tube.
4. REMOVE LIQUID TUBE AND SUCTION TUBE
Torque: 10 N.m (100 kgf.cm, 7 ft.lbf)
REMOVAL NOTE: Cap the open fittings immediately to keep moisture out of the system.
INSTALLATION HINT: Lubricate 2 new O-rings with compressor oil and install the tube.
5. REMOVE ECM COVER
Remove the bolt, 2 nuts and the ECM cover.
6. REMOVE A/C AMPLIFIER AND WIRE HARNESS
(a) Remove the 2 screws and the A/C amplifier.
(b) Remove the 2 bolts and the wire harness assembly.
7. REMOVE COOLING UNIT
(a) Disconnect the evaporator temperature sensor connector.
(b) Remove the 2 bolts, 4 screws and the nut, and pull out the cooling unit.
COOLING UNIT DISASSEMBLY
1. REMOVE THESE PARTS:
(a) Clean air filter (D-opt only)
(b) Grommet
(c) Drain hose
2. SEPARATE UPPER AND LOWER UNIT CASE
(a) Using a knife, cut off the each packing.
(b) Remove the 4 screws, 2 clip and separate the upper and lower unit case.
3. REMOVE EVAPORATOR FROM LOWER UNIT CASE
ASSEMBLY HINT: If evaporator was replaced, add compressor oil to compressor.
Add 40 cc (1.4 fl.oz.)
Compressor oil:
ND-OIL 8 or equivalent
4. PULL OUT EVAPORATOR TEMP. SENSOR FROM EVAPORATOR
5. REMOVE EXPANSION VALVE
(a) Remove the packing and the sensor holders.
(b) Loosen the 2 union nuts and remove the expansion valve.
Torque:
Expansion vale x Evaporator
23 N.m (235 kgf.cm. 17 ft.lbf)
Expansion valve x Liquid tube
14 N.m (140 kgf.cm. 10 ft.lbf)
ASSEMBLY HINT: Lubricate a new O-rings with compressor oil and install the tube.
COOLING UNIT ASSEMBLY
Assembly is in the reverse order of disassembly.
COOLING UNIT INSTALLATION
Installation is in the reverse order of removal.
