Neutral Safety Switch: Service and Repair
REPLACEMENT1. Remove transmission control rod with control shaft lever, as follows:
a. Remove the nut from the shift lever side and park/neutral position switch side for each.
b. Remove the transmission control rod with control shaft lever.
2. Remove park/neutral position switch, as follows:
a. Disconnect the connector.
REMOVAL NOTE: If it is difficult to disconnect the park/neutral position switch connector, first disconnecting the park/neutral position switch from the transmission case Right Hand (RH) side and then remove the connector.
b. Pry off the lock washer and remove the nut.
c. Remove the bolt and park/neutral position switch.
3. Install park/neutral position switch, as follows:
a. Install the park/neutral position switch and bolt.
Torque: 13 Nm (108 ft. lbs.).
b. Install a new lock plate and the nut.
Torque: 3.9 Nm (35 inch lbs.).
c. Stake the nut with the lock plate.
d. Adjust the park/neutral position switch.
1. Loosen the park/neutral position switch bolt and set the shift lever to the N position.
2. Align the groove and neutral basic line.
3. Hold in position and tighten the bolt.
Torque: 13 Nm (108 inch lbs.)
e. Connect the connector.
4. Install transmission control rod with control shaft lever, as follows:
a. Install the transmission control rod with control shaft lever.
b. Install the two nuts.
Torque:
Park/neutral position switch side: 16 Nm (12 ft. lbs.)
Shift lever side: 13 Nm (108 inch lbs.).
c. Adjust the shift lever position.
