Fluid Pressure Check

1. Connect the 09640 - 10010 (09641 - 01010, 09641 - 01030, 09641 -01060) Special Service Tool (SST) and perform the following procedures.
a. Disconnect the pressure feed tube from the power steering vane pump.

b. Connect the SST over a new gasket.

NOTE: Check that the valve of the SST is in the open position.

2. Bleed the power steering system.
3. Boost the fluid temperature by doing the following.
a. Start the engine and run it at idle.
b. Turn the steering wheel from lock to lock several times to boost fluid temperature to 80°C (176°F).

4. Check the fluid pressure reading with valve closed. With the engine idling, close valve of the SST and observe the reading on the SST. The fluid minimum pressure should be 8,826 kPa (280 psi).

NOTE:
^ Do not keep the valve closed for more than 10 seconds.

^ Do not let the fluid temperature become too high.

5. Check the fluid pressure reading with valve opened and do the following.
a. With the engine idling, open the valve fully.
b. Measure the fluid pressure at engine speeds of 1,000 rpm and 3,000 rpm. The fluid pressure difference should be 490 kPa (71 psi) or less.

NOTE: Do not turn the steering wheel.

6. With the engine idling and valve fully opened, turn the steering wheel to full lock and check fluid pressure. The minimum fluid pressure should be 8,826 kPa (1.280 psi).

NOTE:
^ Do not maintain lock position for more than 10 seconds.

^ Do not let the fluid temperature become too high.

7. Disconnect the SST by doing the following.
a. Disconnect the SST.
b. Connect the pressure feed tube.

8. Bleed the power steering system.
