Steering Effort Measurement






1. Center the steering wheel.
2. Measure the steering effort, doing the following.
a. Remove the steering wheel pad.
b. Start the engine and run it at idle.
c. Measure the steering effort in both directions. The (Max.) measurement (Reference) should be 6.9 Nm (61 inch lbs.).

NOTE: Be sure to consider the tire type, pressure and contact surface before making your diagnosis.





d. Disconnect the solenoid connector.
e. Measure the steering effort in both directions and check that the steering effort exceeds the reference value in (c), and that the power assist is operating. If steering effort is not heavier than (c), check the solenoid.

f. Connect the connector.
g. Tighten the steering wheel set nut to 35 Nm (26 ft. lbs.).
h. Install the steering wheel pad.
