Removal and Installation

Front Passenger Airbag Assembly:






REMOVAL

NOTE:
- If the wiring connector of the SRS is disconnected and the ignition switch is in ON position, DTCs will be recorded.
- Never use the airbag parts from another vehicle. When replacing parts, replace them with new parts.




1. REMOVE NO.2 UNDER COVER
Using a screwdriver, pry the No.2 under cover to remove it.

HINT: Tape the screwdriver tip before use.




2. REMOVE NO.2 GARNISH
Using a screwdriver, remove the No.2 garnish.

HINT: Tape the screwdriver tip before use.




3. REMOVE FINISH PANEL ASSEMBLY
a. Remove the 4 bolts and 3 screws.
b. Using a screwdriver, remove the finish panel assembly.

HINT: Tape the screwdriver tip before use.




4. DISCONNECT FRONT PASSENGER AIRBAG ASSEMBLY CONNECTOR
Disconnect the from passenger airbag assembly connector as shown in the illustration.

NOTE: When handling the airbag connector, take care not to damage the airbag wire harness.

5. REMOVE INSTRUMENT PANEL




6. REMOVE NO.4 HEATER TO REGISTER DUCT
Remove the 2 screws and No.4 heater to register duct.

7. REMOVE NO.3 HEATER TO REGISTER DUCT

a. w/ LEXUS navigation system:
Remove the 2 screws and No.3 heater to register duct.

b. w/o LEXUS navigation system:
Remove the 3 screws and No.3 heater to register duct.




8. REMOVE NO.2 SIDE DEFROSTER NOZZLE DUCT
Remove the 2 screws and No.2 side defroster nozzle duct.




9. REMOVE FRONT PASSENGER AIRBAG ASSEMBLY
a. Remove the 2 screws that are connecting the front passenger airbag assembly to the instrument panel and take out the 2 clips installed to the rear part of the airbag door.
b. Bend the rear part of the airbag door to remove the door bracket of the front passenger airbag assembly.
c. Rotate the front passenger airbag assembly around the connected part of the door and the front side door bracket.
d. When the front passenger airbag assembly cones to part A, bend the side faces to release it from the stand nuts.
e. Thoroughly rotate the front passenger airbag assembly to remove it completely.

f. Separate the door bracket of the front passenger airbag assembly from the front part of the airbag door and take out the front passenger airbag assembly.

NOTE: If the front passenger airbag assembly has been dropped, or there are cracks, dents or other defects in the case or connector, replace the front passenger airbag assembly with a new one.

INSTALLATION

NOTE: Never use airbag parts from another vehicle. When replacing parts, replace them with new parts.




1. INSTALL FRONT PASSENGER AIRBAG ASSEMBLY
a. Install the door bracket of the front passenger airbag assembly to the front part of the airbag door.
b. Bend the side faces of the airbag door, rotate the front passenger airbag assembly and fit the stand nuts into the side faces.
c. Thoroughly rotate it and install the door bracket of the front passenger airbag assembly to the rear pant of the airbag door.

d. Install the front passenger airbag assembly to the instrument panel with the 2 screws and fasten the 2 clips to the fixed position on the front pant of the airbag door.

CAUTION:
- When installing the front passenger airbag assembly, take care that the wiring does not interfere with other parts and is not pinched between other parts.
- Make sure that no foreign objects are trapped between the airbag bag and within the module.

NOTE: If the front passenger airbag assembly has been dropped, or there are cracks, dents or other defects in the case or connector, replace the front passenger airbag assembly with a new one.




2. INSTALL NO.2 SIDE DEFROSTER NOZZLE DUCT
Install the No.2 side defroster nozzle duct with the 2 screws.

3. INSTALL NO.3 HEATER TO REGISTER DUCT

a. w/ LEXUS navigation system:
Install the No.3 heater to register duct with the 2 screws.

b. w/o LEXUS navigation system:
Install the No.3 heater to register duct with the 3 screws.




4. INSTALL NO.4 HEATER TO REGISTER DUCT
Install the No.4 heater to register duct with the 2 screws.

5. INSTALL INSTRUMENT PANEL




6. CONNECT FRONT PASSENGER AIRBAG ASSEMBLY CONNECTOR
Connect the front passenger airbag assembly connector.

NOTE: When handling the airbag connector, take care not to damage the airbag wire harness.




7. INSTALL FINISH PANEL ASSEMBLY
Install the finish panel assembly with the 4 bolts and 3 screws.




8. INSTALL NO.2 GARNISH
