Variable Induction Control Valve: Service and Repair

REMOVAL

1. REMOVE V-BANK COVER
2. REMOVE INTAKE AIR CONNECTOR PIPE
3. DISCONNECT THROTTLE BODY FROM INTAKE MANIFOLDS
4. REMOVE UPPER AND LOWER INTAKE MANIFOLDS ASSEMBLY
5. REMOVE VACUUM TANK AND VSV ASSEMBLY FOR ACIS FROM LOWER INTAKE MANIFOLD




a. Disconnect the VSV connector.
b. Disconnect these vacuum hoses:
1. Vacuum hose from port E of VSV.
2. Vacuum hose from port B of vacuum tank.

c. Remove the 2 nuts, the vacuum tank and VSV assembly.

6. REMOVE VSV FOR ACIS FROM VACUUM TANK




a. Remove the vacuum hose.
b. Remove the screw and VSV.

7. REMOVE INTAKE AIR CONTROL VALVE ACTUATOR FROM UPPER INTAKE MANIFOLD
a. Disconnect the vacuum hose from the actuator.
b. Remove the 3 nuts, actuator and gasket.

8. REMOVE UPPER INTAKE MANIFOLD FROM LOWER INTAKE MANIFOLD




Remove the 15 bolts, 3 nuts, upper intake manifold and gasket.

9. REMOVE INTAKE AIR CONTROL VALVE FROM UPPER INTAKE MANIFOLD




Remove the 6 bolts and air control valve.

INSPECTION

1. INSPECT INTAKE AIR CONTROL VALVE




a. Install the air control valve and actuator to the upper intake manifold.
b. Apply 39.9 kPa (300mmHg, 11.78 in.Hg) of vacuum to the actuator.
c. Move the actuator rod, and check that the valve is fully closed.
d. 1 minute after applying the vacuum in (a), check that the actuator rod does not return.

If operation is not as specified, replace the actuator.

2. INSPECT VACUUM TANK




a. Check that air does not flow from ports B to A.
b. Check that air flows from ports A to B.




c. Plug port B with your finger, and apply 39.9 kPa (300 mmHg, 11.78 in.Hg) of vacuum to port A, and check that there is no change is vacuum after 1 minute.

If operation is not as specified, replace the tank.

3. INSPECT VSV

INSTALLATION

1. INSTALL INTAKE AIR CONTROL VALVE TO UPPER INTAKE MANIFOLD




Install the air control valve with the 6 bolts.

Torque: 8.5 N.m (85 kgf.cm, 75 in.lbf)

2. INSTALL UPPER INTAKE MANIFOLD TO LOWER INTAKE MANIFOLD




Install a new gasket and the upper intake manifold with the 15 bolts and 3 nuts.

Torque: 18 N.m (185 kgf.cm, 13 ft.lbf)

3. INSTALL INTAKE AIR CONTROL VALVE ACTUATOR TO UPPER INTAKE MANIFOLD




a. Install a new gasket to the upper intake manifold.
b. Slightly turn the actuator lever clockwise, and attach the levers of the actuator and air control valve.
c. Install the actuator with the 3 nuts.

Torque: 8.5 N.m (85 kgf.cm, 75 in.lbf)

d. Connect the vacuum hose to the actuator.

HINT: Pass the vacuum hose under the rear fuel pipe.

4. INSTALL VSV FOR ACIS TO VACUUM TANK




a. Install the VSV with the screw.
b. Install the vacuum hose between port F of the VSV and port A of the vacuum tank.

5. INSTALL VACUUM TANK AND VSV ASSEMBLY FOR ACIS TO LOWER INTAKE MANIFOLD
a. Install the vacuum tank and VSV assembly with the 2 nuts.

Torque: 18 N.m (185 kgf.cm, 13 ft.lbf)

b. Connect these vacuum hoses:
1. Vacuum hose (from actuator) to port E of VSV
2. Vacuum hose (from lower intake manifold) to port B of vacuum tank

c. Connect the VSV connector.

6. INSTALL UPPER AND LOWER INTAKE MANIFOLDS ASSEMBLY
7. INSTALL THROTTLE BODY TO INTAKE MANIFOLDS
8. INSTALL INTAKE AIR CONNECTOR PIPE
9. INSTALL V-BANK COVER
