Starter Motor: Service and Repair
REMOVAL1. DISCONNECT CABLE FROM NEGATIVE BATTERY TERMINAL
CAUTION: Wait at least 90 seconds after disconnecting the cable from the negative (-) battery terminal to prevent airbag and seat belt pretensioner activation.
2. REMOVE FRONT CONSOLE UPPER PANEL GARNISH
3. REMOVE FRONT CONSOLE UPPER PANEL ASSEMBLY
4. REMOVE INSTRUMENT PANEL FINISH PANEL END RH
5. REMOVE INSTRUMENT PANEL FINISH PANEL END LH
6. REMOVE CONSOLE BOX PLATE
7. REMOVE CONSOLE BOX REGISTER ASSEMBLY
8. REMOVE CONSOLE BOX
9. REMOVE FRONT SEAT ASSEMBLY LH
10. REMOVE ENGINE UNDER COVER
11. REMOVE FRONT EXHAUST PIPE ASSEMBLY
a. Remove the floor brace center
b. Disconnect the heated oxygen sensor
c. Remove the front exhaust pipe
12. REMOVE FRONT PROPELLER SHAFT ASSEMBLY (for 4WD)
13. REMOVE V-BANK COVER SUB-ASSEMBLY
a. Remove the 2 nuts and cover.
14. REMOVE COOL AIR INTAKE DUCT SEAL
15. REMOVE ENGINE ROOM SIDE COVER LH
16. REMOVE EXHAUST MANIFOLD SUB-ASSEMBLY LH
a. Remove the 2 bolts and ground cable.
b. Remove the bolt and engine wire bracket.
c. Disconnect the A/F sensor (bank 1 sensor 1. connector.
d. Remove the 6 nuts, manifold and gasket.
17. REMOVE STARTER ASSEMBLY
a. Disconnect the starter connector.
b. Detach the terminal cap.
c. Remove the nut and disconnect the starter cable.
d. Remove the 2 bolts and starter.
INSTALLATION
1. INSTALL STARTER ASSEMBLY
a. Install the starter with the 2 bolts.
Torque: 58 N.m (591 kgf.cm, 43 ft.lbf)
b. Install the starter cable with the nut, and then attach the terminal cap.
Torque: 4.0 N.m (41 kgf.cm, 35 in.lbf)
c. Connect the starter connector.
2. INSTALL EXHAUST MANIFOLD SUB-ASSEMBLY LH
a. Install a new gasket and the manifold with 6 new nuts.
Torque: 21 N.m (214 kgf.cm, 15 ft.lbf)
b. Connect the A/F sensor connector (bank 1 sensor 1.)
c. Install the engine wire bracket.
d. Install the ground cable with the 2 bolts.
3. INSTALL FRONT EXHAUST PIPE ASSEMBLY
a. Install the front exhaust pipe
b. Connect the heated oxygen sensor
c. Install front floor brace center
4. CONNECT CABLE TO NEGATIVE BATTERY TERMINAL
5. CHECK FOR EXHAUST LEAKS
6. INSTALL FRONT PROPELLER SHAFT ASSEMBLY
7. INSTALL ENGINE UNDER COVER
8. INSTALL ENGINE ROOM SIDE COVER LH
9. INSTALL COOL AIR INTAKE DUCT SEAL
10. INSTALL V-BANK COVER SUB-ASSEMBLY
a. Install the cover with the 2 nuts.
Torque: 5.0 N.m (51 kgf.cm, 44 in.lbf)
11. INSTALL FRONT SEAT ASSEMBLY LH
12. INSTALL CONSOLE BOX
13. INSTALL CONSOLE BOX REGISTER ASSEMBLY
14. INSTALL CONSOLE BOX PLATE
15. INSTALL INSTRUMENT PANEL FINISH PANEL END LH
16. INSTALL INSTRUMENT PANEL FINISH PANEL END RH
17. INSTALL FRONT CONSOLE UPPER PANEL ASSEMBLY
18. INSTALL FRONT CONSOLE UPPER PANEL GARNISH
19. PERFORM INITIALIZATION
a. Perform initialization
NOTE: Certain systems need to be initialized after disconnecting and reconnecting the cable from the negative (-) battery terminal.
