REMOVAL
HINT:
^ Use the same procedures for the No. 2 and No. 3 parking brake cables.
^ The procedures listed below are for the No. 1 and No. 3 parking brake cables.
1. FOLLOW PRECAUTION
(a) Follow the Restraint System Service Precautions.
2. REMOVE FRONT FLOOR BRACE CENTER
3. REMOVE REAR SUSPENSION MEMBER BRACE REAR LOWER LH
4. REMOVE REAR SUSPENSION MEMBER BRACE REAR LOWER RH
5. DISCONNECT HEATED OXYGEN SENSOR
6. REMOVE EXHAUST PIPE ASSEMBLY
7. REMOVE PARKING BRAKE CABLE HEAT INSULATOR
8. REMOVE FRONT FLOOR NO. 1 HEAT INSULATOR
9. DISCONNECT FLOOR SHIFT GEAR SHIFTING ROD SUB-ASSEMBLY
10. DISCONNECT NO. 1 PARKING BRAKE CABLE ASSEMBLY
(a) Remove the 2 bolts and intermediate lever support bracket from the floor panel.
(b) Remove the clip and pin.
(c) Disconnect the cable from the intermediate lever.
11. SET RADIO RECEIVER ASSEMBLY TO SHIPMENT MODE
12. DISCONNECT CABLE FROM NEGATIVE BATTERY TERMINAL
CAUTION: Wait at least 90 seconds after disconnecting the cable from the negative (-) battery terminal to prevent airbag and seat belt pretensioner activation.
13. REMOVE DOOR SCUFF PLATE ASSEMBLY LH
14. REMOVE FRONT DOOR OPENING TRIM COVER LH
15. REMOVE NO. 1 INSTRUMENT PANEL SAFETY PAD SUB-ASSEMBLY
16. REMOVE LOWER NO. 1 INSTRUMENT PANEL AIR BAG ASSEMBLY
17. REMOVE REAR CONSOLE UPPER PANEL GARNISH
18. REMOVE UPPER CONSOLE PANEL SUB-ASSEMBLY
19. REMOVE AIR CONDITIONER CONTROL ASSEMBLY
20. REMOVE INSTRUMENT CLUSTER FINISH PANEL SUB-ASSEMBLY LOWER CENTER
21. CONFIRM RADIO RECEIVER ASSEMBLY SET TO SHIPMENT MODE
22. REMOVE DOOR SCUFF PLATE ASSEMBLY RH
23. REMOVE FRONT DOOR OPENING TRIM COVER RH
24. REMOVE NO. 2 INSTRUMENT PANEL UNDER COVER SUB-ASSEMBLY
25. REMOVE GLOVE COMPARTMENT DOOR ASSEMBLY
26. REMOVE LOWER NO. 2 INSTRUMENT PANEL AIR BAG ASSEMBLY
27. REMOVE CONSOLE BOX CARPET
28. REMOVE NO. 3 BOX PANEL
29. REMOVE CONSOLE BOX ASSEMBLY
30. REMOVE PARKING BRAKE CONTROL PEDAL ASSEMBLY
31. REMOVE FLOOR SHIFT ASSEMBLY
32. REMOVE NO. 1 PARKING BRAKE CABLE ASSEMBLY
(a) Remove the 4 nuts, 2 bolts and cable.
33. REMOVE REAR WHEEL
34. DISCONNECT REAR DISC BRAKE CYLINDER ASSEMBLY LH
35. REMOVE REAR DISC
36. REMOVE PARKING BRAKE SHOE STRUT LH
37. REMOVE PARKING BRAKE SHOE ADJUSTING SCREW SET
38. REMOVE NO. 1 PARKING BRAKE SHOE ASSEMBLY LH
39. REMOVE NO. 2 PARKING BRAKE SHOE ASSEMBLY LH
40. REMOVE PARKING BRAKE SHOE LEVER LH
41. DISCONNECT NO. 3 PARKING BRAKE CABLE ASSEMBLY
(a) Remove the 2 bolts, and then disconnect the cable from the backing plate.
42. REMOVE NO. 3 PARKING BRAKE CABLE ASSEMBLY
(a) Remove the 3 bolts and disconnect the cable from the vehicle body.
(b) Disconnect the cable from the clamp.
(c) Disconnect the cable from the intermediate lever, and then remove the cable.
(d) Remove the 2 brackets from the cable.
INSTALLATION
HINT:
^ Use the same procedures for the No. 2 and No. 3 parking brake cables.
^ The procedures listed below are for the No. 3 and No. 1 parking brake cables.
1. INSTALL NO. 3 PARKING BRAKE CABLE ASSEMBLY
(a) Install the 2 brackets to the cable.
(b) Connect the cable to the intermediate lever.
(c) Connect the cable to the clamp.
(d) Install the cable to the vehicle body with the 3 bolts.
Torque: 18.6 N*m (190 kgf*cm, 19 ft.*lbf) for bolt A 5.4 N*m (55 kgf*cm, 48 in.*lbf) for bolt B
2. CONNECT NO. 3 PARKING BRAKE CABLE ASSEMBLY
(a) Install the cable to the backing plate with the 2 bolts.
Torque: 7.8 N*m (80 kgf*cm, 69 in.*lbf)
3. APPLY HIGH TEMPERATURE GREASE
4. INSTALL PARKING BRAKE SHOE LEVER LH
5. INSTALL NO. 2 PARKING BRAKE SHOE ASSEMBLY LH
6. INSTALL NO. 1 PARKING BRAKE SHOE ASSEMBLY LH
7. INSTALL PARKING BRAKE SHOE ADJUSTING SCREW SET
8. INSTALL PARKING BRAKE SHOE STRUT LH
9. CHECK PARKING BRAKE INSTALLATION
10. INSTALL REAR DISC
11. INSTALL NO. 1 PARKING BRAKE CABLE ASSEMBLY
(a) Install the cable with the 2 bolts and 4 nuts.
Torque: 7.8 N*m (80 kgf*cm, 69 in.*lbf) for bolt 5.4 N*m (55 kgf*cm, 48 in.*lbf) for nut
12. INSTALL PARKING BRAKE CONTROL PEDAL ASSEMBLY
13. INSTALL FLOOR SHIFT ASSEMBLY
14. INSTALL FLOOR SHIFT GEAR SHIFTING ROD SUBASSEMBLY
15. ADJUST SHIFT LEVER POSITION
16. CONNECT NO. 1 PARKING BRAKE CABLE ASSEMBLY
(a) Apply MP grease to the sliding part of the cable against the intermediate lever.
(b) Install the cable to the intermediate lever with the clip and pin.
(c) Install the intermediate lever support bracket to the floor panel with the 2 bolts.
Torque: 5.4 N*m (55 kgf*cm, 48 in.*lbf)

37. INSTALL REAR SUSPENSION MEMBER BRACE REAR LOWER RH
38. INSTALL REAR SUSPENSION MEMBER BRACE REAR LOWER LH
39. INSTALL FRONT FLOOR BRACE CENTER
40. ADJUST PARKING BRAKE SHOE CLEARANCE
41. CONNECT REAR DISC BRAKE CYLINDER ASSEMBLY LH
42. INSTALL REAR WHEEL
(a) Install the wheel with the 5 nuts.
Torque: 103 N*m (1,050 kgf*cm, 76 ft.*lbf)
(b) Install the ornament with the 10 bolts.
Torque: 20 N*m (204 kgf*cm, 15 ft.*lbf)
43. CONNECT CABLE TO NEGATIVE BATTERY TERMINAL
44. PERFORM INITIALIZATION
(a) Perform initialization.
NOTICE: Certain systems need to be initialized after disconnecting and reconnecting the cable from the negative (-) battery terminal.
45. CHECK PARKING BRAKE PEDAL TRAVEL
46. ADJUST PARKING BRAKE PEDAL TRAVEL
47. INSPECT SHIFT LEVER POSITION
48. CHECK FOR EXHAUST GAS LEAK
49. CHECK SRS WARNING LIGHT
(a) Check the SRS warning light.
