Collision Avoidance and Parking Assist Systems: Description and Operation

Parking Aid

Parking Aid System - Rear

The parking aid system consists of the following:

- 4 ultrasonic parking aid sensors (located in the rear bumper)
- Parking Aid Module (PAM) (located under the left side parcel shelf)
- Rear parking aid speaker (part of the PAM)
- Parking aid disable feature (integral to the Instrument Cluster (IC) message center)

The parking aid system calculates the distance to an object around the rear of the vehicle by the use of 4 ultrasonic sensors. The parking aid system sounds a warning to alert the driver of stationary objects near the rear bumper when REVERSE (R) is selected.

The rear sensors are activated at all times when REVERSE (R) is selected. The parking aid system assists the driver in detecting certain objects while the vehicle moves in reverse at speeds less than 4.8 km/h (3 mph). The parking aid system may not detect moving objects.

Parking Aid System - Front and Rear

The parking aid system consists of the following:

- 4 ultrasonic parking aid sensors (located in the rear bumper)
- 4 ultrasonic parking aid sensors (located in the front bumper)
- PAM (located under the left side parcel shelf)
- Front parking aid speaker (located on the hush panel assembly below the glove box)
- Rear parking aid speaker (part of the PAM)
- Parking aid disable feature (integral to the IC message center)

The parking aid system sounds a warning to alert the driver of stationary objects near the rear bumper when REVERSE (R) is selected or an object near the front bumper when DRIVE (D) is selected.

For the rear parking system, when in REVERSE (R) the front and rear sensors are active. The parking aid system calculates the distance to an object around the rear of the vehicle by the use of 4 ultrasonic sensors. The parking aid system assists the driver in detecting certain objects while the vehicle moves in reverse at speeds less than 4.8 km/h (3 mph). The parking aid system may not detect angular or moving objects.

For the front parking aid system, when in DRIVE (D) only the front sensors are active. The parking aid system calculates the distance to an object around the front of the vehicle by the use of 4 ultrasonic sensors. The front sensors are activated if the vehicle speed is greater than 0 km/h (0 mph) and less than 13 km/h (8 mph). The parking aid system may not detect moving objects.

Video (If Equipped)

The rear video camera system consists of the following:

- Video camera (located in the license lamp housing)
- Front Display Interface Module (FDIM)

The video camera is located in the center of the luggage compartment lid mounted to the license lamp housing. The video camera is activated when REVERSE (R) is selected. The image from the video camera is displayed in the FDIM.
