APPLICABLE MODEL(S)/VINS
2007-2009 CX-7

The passenger side dashboard pad (A) part number has been established to eliminate the need to replace the air bag module when repairing vehicles with dashboard pads that have scratches, smudges or other damage to the pad.

Refer to the following repair procedure for dashboard pad replacement.

REPAIR PROCEDURE

WARNING:
^ Always follow AIR BAG SYSTEM SERVICE WARNINGS and AIR BAG SYSTEM SERVICE CAUTIONS according to on-line MS3 instructions or Workshop Manual when handling an air bag module.

^ Always place a live (undeployed) air bag module face up.

^ A live (undeployed) air bag module placed face down is dangerous. If the air bag module were to accidentally operate (deploy), it could cause serious injury.

1. Verify customer concern.

2. Remove the passenger-side air bag assembly (A) from the vehicle according to on-line MS3 instructions or Workshop Manual (section 08-10 PASSENGER-SIDE AIR BAG MODULE REMOVAL/INSTALLATION).

3. Place the air bag module assembly in a vise (A) with the rivets (B) facing upward.

4. Apply tape (A) over two (2) air bag module connectors to prevent debris from entering.

5. Using a saw, cut through the two (2) rivets to separate the air bag module from the pad.

NOTE:
^ DO NOT perform this step when standing in front of the deployment surface.

^ DO NOT use electrical tools (i.e. electric drill), otherwise a spark and/or explosion could occur.

^ Make sure to remove all rivet debris from the air bag module.

6. If the bracket (A) becomes deformed while cutting the rivets, reform it to its original position.

7. Incline the air bag module to pass the tabs through the holes, then remove the air bag module from the pad.

8. Insert 14 tabs (A) into the holes on the pad to attach the air bag module.

9. Place the air bag module assembly in a vise with the rivets facing upward.

10. Affix the air bag module to the pad with two (2) rivets.

11. Remove the tape (A) applied over the connectors.

12. Remove the air bag module assembly from the vise.

13. Install the passenger-side air bag assembly from the vehicle according to on-line MS3 instructions or Workshop Manual (section 08-10 PASSENGER-SIDE AIR BAG MODULE REMOVAL/INSTALLATION).

14. Verify repair.
