Subject:
BUMPER COVER (OR FASCIA) REPAIR / REFINISHING NOTICE
Last Issued:10/18/2012
2013 CX-5 - BUMPER COVER (OR FASCIA) REPAIR / REFINISHING NOTICE
APPLICABLE MODEL(S)/VINS
2013 CX-5
DESCRIPTION
The front and rear bumper covers (or fascia) for the 2013 CX-5 are 25 - 30% lighter than the previous bumper
covers used on Mazda vehicles. The weight reduction was accomplished by using new materials that are now
part of Mazdas overall SKYACTIV TECHNOLOGY.
Although the bumper covers are lighter, the repair/refinishing procedures and the materials used are no differ-
ent than the previous (PP) polypropylene (heavier) bumper covers Mazda has used in the past.
NOTE:
-Typically recommended abrasive grades may be too aggressive for cosmetic areas and may leave
deep scratches that could be difficult to refine.
-Where grade P80 abrasive is normally recommended the substitution of grade P150 abrasives is
acceptable and provides exceptional adhesion and featheredging qualities.
-P80 is still acceptable on non-cosmetic areas where deeper scratches do not require refining.
Advise all body shop personnel of this notice.
