TAPPING NOISE COMING FROM FRONT SEAT BACK

APPLICABLE MODEL(S)/VINS
2013 CX-5 vehicles with VINs lower than JM3KE******116881
(Produced before April 4, 2012)

DESCRIPTION

Some vehicles may exhibit a tapping noise from inside the front seat back while driving on rough road surfaces. The seat may also shake during rapid vehicle acceleration or deceleration. This concern may be caused by contact between the plastic slider (A) and seat rod (B).

To eliminate this concern, a piece of urethane has been attached to the center of the seat rod to prevent contact with the slider.

Customers having this concern should have their vehicle repaired using the following repair procedure.

REPAIR PROCEDURE

1. Verify the customer concern.

2. Slide the front seat bottom forward.

3. Disconnect hook B from hook A in the order shown above.

4. Unfasten the seat back trim (A) then fold it up out of the way (B).

5. Turn over the bottom of the silencer (white unwoven cloth) (A) to access the slider (B) and seat rod (C).

6. Cut one (1) piece of 5 mm thick urethane (from Noise Repair Kit) into a 40 mm x 70 mm piece.

7. Affix the piece of urethane (A) onto the center of the seat rod (B) with the edges of the urethane facing downward (C).

8. Re-assemble the seat back trim.

9. Repeat Steps 2 - 8 on opposite side front seat.

10. Verify the repair.
