Thermal Limiting Fuse: Service and Repair
WARNING: Kerosene is hazardous. It can easily ignite, causing serious injury and damage. Always keep sparks and flames away from kerosene.1. Remove the A/C compressor.
2. Remove the magnetic clutch.
3. Before removing the thermal protector, clean the A/C compressor with kerosene to remove foreign objects and dust. Allow it to dry completely.
CAUTION: If moisture or foreign material enters the refrigeration cycle, cooling ability will be lowered and abnormal noise will occur. Always immediately plug all open fittings after removing any refrigeration cycle parts to keep moisture or foreign material out of the cycle.
4. Remove in the order indicated in the table.
5. Clean the sealing surfaces of the head cover and A/C compressor body using an oil stone after removal.
6. Remove any oil from the bolt holes.
7. Install in the reverse order of removal.
Thermal protector removal note
Remove the snap ring and push the protector out from its back side to remove it. Do not pull on the wiring harness.
O-ring installation note
Make sure the O-ring is free of foreign material. Apply compressor oil to the O-ring and fit it into the groove securely.
Thermal protector installation note
1. Install the thermal protector so that its two lead wire outlet sections are horizontal, as indicated in the table.
2. Install the snap ring so that its chamfered edge faces the thermal protector. Make sure the snap ring is seated securely in its groove.
Head cover O-ring Installation note
Apply compressor oil to the O-ring and assemble them. Make sure the top side of the O-ring faces upward.
Head cover installation note
Install the head cover so that head cover O-ring is not off its grove.
Bolt installation note
Tighten socket head bolts A, and then tighten bolts B in a diagonal manner.
Tightening torque
A: 12.8 - 17.6 N.m {130 - 180 kgf.cm, 113 - 156 in.lbf}
B: 8.9 - 11.7 N.m {90 - 120 kgf.cm, 79 - 104 in.lbf}
