Audio System - Poor Sound From Door Speaker(s)

SUBJECT: POOR SOUND FROM DOOR SPEAKER

APPLICABLE MODEL(S)/VINS
2010-2011 Mazda3 without BOSE audio (including Mazdaspeed3) with VINS lower than JM1BL******385452 (produced before September 6, 2010)

DESCRIPTION

Some vehicles may exhibit poor sound from the door speaker. The problem is caused by moisture on the speaker that freezes and damages the speaker.

Customers having this concern should have their vehicle repaired using the following repair procedure.

REPAIR PROCEDURE

1. Verify customer concern.

^ If the poor sound occurs only when the outside temperature is below freezing (0°C/32°F), replace the concerned speaker with a modified one.

^ If the poor sound occurs regardless of the outside temperature, visually check the speaker.

- If any damage is found on the speaker cone (shaded area on the image below), replace the speaker with a modified one.





- If there is no damage found on the speaker cone, refer to the MS3 online instructions or Workshop Manual for troubleshooting.

2. Verify repair.
