APPLICABLE MODEL(S)/VINS
2010 MAZDA3 5-door vehicles

DESCRIPTION

Some vehicles may exhibit an excessive amount of gap between the bottom of the rear ornament and the liftgate (A). This is caused by the inappropriate location of the rear ornament mounting clip. The location of the rear ornament mounting clip has been corrected.

Customers having this concern should have their vehicle repaired using the following repair procedure.

REPAIR PROCEDURE

1. Verify customer concern.

2. Apply protective tape around the ornament, then cut off the double-sided tape behind the ornament with a cutting knife (A).

3. Use a fiber stick to carefully pry the ornament from the liftgate.

4. Remove the fasteners in 2 spots (A).

5. Remove the remaining double-sided tape of the rear ornament and the protective tape on the liftgate completely, then degrease the surface using a suitable degreaser like 3M General Purpose Adhesive Cleaner # 08984.

6. Take the adhesive backing (A) off the new rear ornament, then insert the locator pins (B) of the rear ornament in the mounting holes of the liftgate (in 2 spots).

7. Press the ornament firmly to ensure the adhesive bonds to the liftgate.

8. Verify repair.
