ADVANCE KEYLESS ENTRY SYSTEM MALFUNCTION

APPLICABLE MODEL(S)/VINS
2010 Mazda3 equipped with VINS lower than JM1BL****A*333788 (produced before May 25, 2010)

DESCRIPTION

Some vehicles equipped with the Advanced Keyless Entry System may experience the following symptoms:

a. The door locks will not operate when the request switch is pressed.

b. The door locks and unlocks repeatedly when the customer approaches the vehicle. This condition may be cause by electrical wiring harness water contamination. Customers having this concern should have their vehicle repaired using the following repair procedure.

REPAIR PROCEDURE

Interview customer to determine driver side or front passenger side concern, remove the outer handle on the side of the symptom and confirm connector corrosion. Replace the outer handle, the short cord and install protector if it applies. If corrosion is not found on the connector terminal, refer to MS3 online or Workshop Manual (section 09-03 NO. 2 ADVANCED KEYLESS ENTRY FUNCTION INOPERATIVE [ADVANCED KEYLESS ENTRY AND PUSH BUTTON START SYSTEM]).

1. Remove the front door panel. Refer to MS3 online or Workshop Manual (section 09-11 FRONT DOOR MODULE PANEL REMOVAL/INSTALLATION).

2. Separate the outer handle connector (A) from the door harness connector.





3. Check connector terminal for corrosion (A).





NOTE:
If there is no corrosion on the connector terminal, refer to MS3 online or Workshop Manual (section 09-03 NO. 2 ADVANCED KEYLESS ENTRY FUNCTION INOPERATIVE [ADVANCED KEYLESS ENTRY AND PUSH BUTTON START SYSTEM]).

4. Replace the outer handle and the short cord (A).





^ View after door panel removal.

5. Check the connector's lot number (A) on new outer handle.

NOTE:
^ Apply the protector if connector lot number is 0E14 or before.

^ Proceed to step 7 if connector lot number is 0E15 or later.





6. Apply the protector to the connector of the outer handle.

a. Remove the adhesive backing (A) of the protector.





b. Fit the protector to the outer handle connector terminal.





Place the water-proof seal area (A) of the connector on the butyl (B) of the protector. It must be placed in the center of butyl surface (C).





Wrap the protector as shown (A), hold the water-proof seal area in the connector with fingers so that butyl can adhere to the connector water-proof area closely (B). Remove the paper (C).

7. Install parts in the reverse order of the removal.

8. Verify repair.
