Lighting - Adaptive Headlamps Don't Return To Center
Bulletin No: 09-019/11Last Issued: 07/20/2011
Subject: HEADLIGHTS DO NOT RETURN TO CENTER AFTER SWIVELING AND AFS OFF WARNING LIGHT FLASHES
APPLICABLE MODEL(S)/VINS
2010-2011 Mazda3 vehicles equipped with Adaptive Front Lighting System (AFS)
DESCRIPTION
After servicing the AFS, the headlights swivel at cornering (A) and do not return to the center position (B). The AFS OFF warning light also flashes.
This is caused by a bulb connector that should be aligned vertically, but is aligned horizontally during service work. As a result, the connector interferes with the headlight housing when swiveling and sticks.
REPAIR PROCEDURE
1. Verify the direction of the bulb connector after removing the cover (A).
- If it is facing horizontally, disconnect the connector (A) by turning counter-clockwise and re-align it vertically as shown.
- If it is facing vertical, this information does not apply. Refer to the Workshop Manual for troubleshooting.
2. Verify repair.
NOTE:
Since this failure is from servicing and not a manufacturing defect, this repair would not be covered under Mazda's Vehicle Warranty
