REAR DOOR LOCKS INOPERATIVE DUE TO FREEZING

DESCRIPTION
When ambient temperature rapidly drop below 0° F, especially after a rain or car wash, some vehicles may experience a rear door that is unable to open due to an inoperative rear door lock. This symptom tends to occur when the power door lock is operated. Water enters inside the rear door latch (A) and lock actuator, then becomes frozen and stuck.
Customers having this concern should have their vehicle repaired using the following repair procedure.

REPAIR PROCEDURE
NOTE
1. Verify customer concern.
2. Remove concerned door latch, then apply pads according to the following procedure.
3. Remove two (2) screws (B) and open the cover (D).
CAUTION:
Be careful not to damage the end of pad (A) at location (C).
4. Remove inner cable (A) and knob cable (B) from case.
5. Install pad (A) from end of both inner cable and knob cable.
NOTE:
Install the pad 8mm from the caps (B) on the end of cable.
6. Attach end of inner cable to lever.
NOTE:
Inner cable is directional.
- On right door latch, make sure to install as the groove (B) on the end of inner cable can be seen.
- On left door latch, make sure to install as the groove (A) on the end of inner cable cannot be seen.
7. Attach end of knob cable (A) to rotor (B).
8. Peel off adhesive backing (A) from pad.
9. Install caps of inner cable and knob cable on door latch case until it clicks.
10. Apply pad to case according to the following. Make pad contact case at location (A) and align pad with line at location (B).
11. Put case cover and tighten with two (2) screws.
12. Apply large pad (C) on case according to the following.
a. Align pad with end of u-shape pad (A) and mold line (B).
b. Peel off adhesive backing and apply large pad so the case is wrapped.
13. Reinstall door latch.
14. Verify repair.
