Function
The mirror glass in the outside rearview mirror on the driver's side can be dimmed electro-chromatically. For this purpose a layer of electrolyte gel is present in the mirror glass between the reflector and cover lens. If voltage is applied to this gel its permeability to light changes.
Light reaching the mirror surface is reflected to a greater or lesser extent depending on the magnitude of the actuation voltage. The actuation voltage is controlled by the Inside rearview mirror (A67) (master) and the extended activity module (EAM) (N10/1). For this purpose separate leads are installed for actuating the automatic dimming inside rearview mirror (M21/1h1).
Control is accomplished depending on the ambient light and light reaching the mirror.
These two input variables are sensed by the ambient light sensor (A67h2) in the inside rearview mirror housing (rear) and by the automatic dimming inside rearview mirror sensor (A67h1) in the mirror glass of the inside rearview mirror.
NOTE: If an inside lamp is switched on or the CAN bus message "Reverse gear engaged" is received the outside rearview mirror as well as the inside rearview mirror become "brighter".
