Ambient Temperature Sensor / Switch HVAC: Service and Repair



Remove, Install Outside Air Temperature Sensor











DANGER:
- Risk of injury to skin and eyes suffering scalding from contact with hot coolant spray. Risk of poisoning from swallowing coolant.
- Do not open cooling system unless coolant temperature is below 90 degrees C. Open cap slowly and release the pressure. Do not pour coolant into beverage bottles.
- Wear protective gloves, protective clothing and eye protection.
- Risk of explosion from welding or soldering work on closed air conditioning system. Risk of poisoning from inhaling overheated refrigerant vapors. Risk of injury from skin and eye contact with liquid refrigerant.
- Do not carry out any welding work on the closed air conditioning system or in the surrounding area. No smoking or open flames. Wear eye protection and protective gloves. Work only in well ventilated areas.
- Carry out repair work on the air conditioning system circuit only after the system has been discharged.


CAUTION:
- Conduct if air conditioning system is damaged or leaking
- Protect air conditioning circuit and components from moisture when carrying out repair work.


1 Drain coolant
2 Unscrew coolant expansion reservoir (1) at firewall

NOTE: Lay compensating reservoir to one side.

3 Detach coolant hoses (2)

NOTE: Release hose clamps at the coolant hoses.

4 Discharge air conditioning system

NOTE: Installation: Evacuate the air conditioning system, refill it, and then check the system to make sure that It functions correctly and does not leak.

5 Remove cover on expansion valve (4)
6 Remove nut (3) on expansion valve (4)

CAUTION: Replace self-locking nut.

7 Detach refrigerant lines from expansion valve

CAUTION: Installation: Replace sealing rings and moisten with compressor oil.

8 Remove wiper system
9 Remove nuts (5) from instrument panel at firewall
10 Remove paneling from A-pillar
11 Remove plastic nuts on the driver's side on paneling under instrument panel
12 Remove paneling on right in footwell
13 Remove rubber covers on side of the A-pillars and unscrew bolts (arrows) of instrument panel
14 Remove center console
15 Unscrew bolt (6) at bottom of instrument panel
16 Pull instrument panel to the rear

CAUTION: Bring in helper. Cushion front edge of selector lever module so that lower edge of instrument panel is not damaged.

17 Twist instrument panel so that rear is accessible

CAUTION: Do not overstretch interior wiring harness.

18 Disconnect outside temperature sensor connector (B10/5x1) from the outside temperature sensor
19 Disconnect cable from temperature sensor to evaporator housing

NOTE: Installation: Ensure correct cable routine

20 Remove outside temperature sensor (B10/5) from air duct

NOTE: 2 bolts.

21 Install in the reverse order
22 Inspect cooling system for leaks.
