Fuel gauge sensor function
The fuel gauge sensor (B4) is a lever-type sensor with potentiometer and sliding contact. The resistance is analyzed in the electronics of the fuel gauge.
Low resistance = fuel tank empty
High resistance = fuel tank full
Note: If an open circuit in the wiring exists, the fuel gauge in the instrument cluster indicates empty; the fuel reserve indicator lamp does not come on.
Splash bowl function
The splash bowl (80/5) is reliably filled with fuel up to a certain level by means of the line from the suction spray pump (B). When cornering with a low level of fuel in the fuel tank, it prevents the fuel pump drawing in air.
Suction spray pump function
The nozzle (A) in the suction spray pump accelerates the returning fuel (R). The fuel jet produces a suction effect and improves the fuel supply for the feed line (B) to the splash bowl.
