Suspension - Under Vehicle Knocking/Thumping Noises

If you receive customer reports in the above model vehicles of a knocking noise while driving, thumping noise from underneath the front seat area, or noises while turning, perform the following repair procedure.

1) Place vehicle on a lift and raise. Reference WIS document AS00.00-Z-0010-01A.

2) Measure spring preload of torsion bar using caliper gauge at access hole. Reference WIS document AR32.20-P-0200GH.





3) Remove bolt (Figure 1, 1) and release tension from torsion bar (Figure 1, 2). Reference WIS document AR32.20-P-0200GH.

4) Remove bottom half of adjuster assembly (Figure 1, 3).

5) Remove and discard damaged plastic support (Figure 1, 4).

6) Place new support (Figure 1, 4) into position and reassemble adjuster assembly (Figure 1, 3).

Note:
Clean and inspect bolt (Figure 1, 1) for excessive wear. If excessive wear exists, replace the torsion bar bearing assembly. Grease bolt (Figure 1, 1) and the end of the torsion bar (Figure 1, 2) with Optimol grease before installation. Additionally, ensure that the rubber bellow (Figure 1, 5) is properly positioned.

7) Repeat steps 2-6 for other side.

8) Check and adjust vehicle ride height/level at front and rear axles. Reference WIS document AR40.20-P-0301GH.

9) Check and correct headlamp adjustment. Reference WIS document AP82.10-P-8260GH.
