B. Installing the SDAR Antenna

1. Detach the headliner from the roof at the rear, center retainer clip and lower the headliner (Figure 1).

NOTICE
Be careful not to break the retainer clip or damage the headliner by using excessive force.

2. Place a rag between the headliner and roof to catch metal chips from drilling.

3. Apply masking tape to an 8-in. x 8-in. area in front of the navigation system antenna on the roof where the drilled hole will be (Figure 2).

4. Measure and mark a spot 53-mm forward from the front, center edge of the navigation system antenna (Figure 2).

5. Drill a 3-mm diameter pilot hole at the measured mark on the tape (Arrow, Figure 2).

CAUTION
Risk of bodily injury is involved. Use protective eyewear.

NOTICE
Be careful not to damage the roof or headliner while drilling.

6. Drill the 3-mm pilot hole to an enlarged 6-mm diameter pilot hole.

7. Drill the 6-mm diameter pilot hole to a 20-mm diameter hole using a UniBit(R).

NOTICE
Do not use a hole saw. Damage to the roof will result from using a hole saw.

8. Remove the burrs around the hole edge.

9. Carefully clean away the metal chips from the roof, remove the tape, and remove the rag with metal chips from between the headliner and roof.

10. Thoroughly coat the 20-mm diameter hole edge with primer (Part Number A 000 986 06 50) and allow it to dry.

11. Remove the wax paper backing from the self-adhesive side of the "thicker" plastic washer (A, Figure 3).

12. From the roof underside, affix the adhesive side of the washer around the 20-mm hole (A, Figure 3).

Note:
Make sure the washer seats properly and the top of the inside lip is flush or protruding-never recessed-from the rooftop.

13. Loosen the T25 Torx screw in the SDAR antenna sleeve (Figure 4).

14. Feed the SDAR antenna leads, from the topside of the roof, through the washer affixed to the roof (A, Figure 3).

15. Carefully insert the SDAR antenna sleeve (B, Figure 3) into the washer (A, Figure 3) until it snaps into place.

Note:
While inserting the SDAR antenna sleeve into the washer, have an assistant hold the washer from beneath to prevent it from pushing out of the roof.

NOTICE
Be careful not to damage the roof by applying excessive force.

16. Orient the SDAR antenna straight with the vertical end facing the vehicle front and the beveled end the vehicle rear (Figure 5).

17. Apply light downward pressure to the SDAR antenna so the gasket fully seats flush against the roof.

NOTICE
Be careful not to damage the roof by applying excessive force.

18. Tighten, but do not over tighten, the T25 Torx screw in the SDAR antenna sleeve (Arrow, Figure 4) while an assistant holds the antenna from above to keep it from turning.

19. Remove the tape from the connectors of the preinstalled antenna leads between the roof and headliner (Figure 6).

20. Install a plastic connector lock-clip on the antenna lead male connector if not present (Figure 7).

21. Connect the preinstalled antenna leads to the SDAR antenna leads (Figure 8).

Note:
Make sure the connectors lock into the plastic connector lock-clips.

22. Insulate the coupled connectors with felt tape.

23. Secure the antenna leads to the roof interior with felt tape.
