FILE:SERVICE: GROUP 00 OF SERVICE INFORMATION BINDER
PARTS: GROUP I OF INFORMATION _ PARTS & ACCESSORIES BINDER
Campaign No. 2005100010, November 2005
TO: ALL MERCEDES-BENZ CENTERS
SUBJECT:
MODEL 163 MODEL YEAR 2004-2005 SEAL BULKHEAD SEAM
This Service Campaign has been initiated because DCAG has determined that on the affected vehicles (see VIN range below) the seal at the bulkhead in the engine compartment may be insufficient and require additional sealing material.
Please review the Effective Serial Number chart located below and if necessary repair the subject vehicles during the vehicle's next service.
Prior to performing this Service Campaign:
^ Please check VMI to insure the vehicle is involved and to determine if the vehicle has been previously repaired.
^ Please review the entire Service Campaign bulletin.
Approximately 1345 vehicles are affected.
Effective Serial Number Range
Note:
Every vehicle in the VIN range may not be included in the campaign. VMI must always be checked before performing campaigns to verify that the campaign is required on a specific vehicle. VMI always overrides the bulletin in reference to a specific vehicle's inclusion in a particular campaign. Please also note that Recall and Service Campaigns do not expire and may also be performed on a vehicle with a vehicle status indicator.
Procedure
1. Remove left wheel well liner, refer to WIS: AR88.10-P-1300GH.
2. Clean bulkhead area (A, Figure 1) with cleaner.
Note:
Use shop supply cleaner: Part Number A 005989 1971.
3. Apply seam sealant to bulkhead:
^ Apply a 3.5" bead of sealant along area (A) surrounding seam seal.
^ Press bead into existing seam sealant to fill any openings/gaps (in original seam sealant).
Note:
^ DO NOT apply sealant to drain hole (arrow).
^ Ensure sealant covers the entire seam area (A).
4. Reinstall wheel well cover.
5. If necessary replace floor covering (rug), refer to WIS: AR68.20-P-2040GH.
Note:
Only in the very rare case where water has entered the passenger compartment through an opening/gaps (in the original seam seal as described in this campaign) and water damage (mildew) has occurred are dealers permitted to replace the floor covering. Dealers must retain supporting documentation regarding floor covering replacement. Worn or dirty floor coverings or water damage from other sources (open window, rain, snow, etc) do not qualify for replacement under this campaign.
