Procedure
ProcedureA. Check for Installation of Spacer and Check for Chafing On Brake Line
1. Check spacer between brake line and fuel line:
Note:
Either the rubber grommet (A, Figure 1) or the omega clip (B) must be installed at the brake line.
^ If the rubber grommet (A) or the omega clip (B) is installed procedure is complete.
^ If the rubber grommet (A) or the omega clip (B) is not installed proceed to step 2.
2. Check the brake line for chafe marks from fuel line contact in the area of the omega clip (B, Figure 1):
^ If chafe marks are present on brake line proceed to Subject B (Replace Brake Line).
^ If chafe marks are not present on brake line proceed to step 4 of Subject B.
Note:
If brake line has rub marks (paint only rubbed off) from fuel line contact, affix fabric tape to fuel line (C) and apply primer paint to brake line (shop supply primer paint stick part number: A 000 986 27 50) then proceed to step 4 of Subject B.
B. Replace Brake Line
1. Replace brake line (arrows, Figure 1, 2) connected between brake master cylinder and hydraulic unit; refer to WIS: AR42.50-P-0002GH.
Note:
^ Thoroughly clean ESP hydraulic unit and master cylinder at hydraulic line area.
^ If necessary, loosen bolt (2, Figure 3) securing windshield washer reservoir (1) in order to gain access to brake line (do not remove washer reservoir).
^ When installing new brake line (arrow, Figure 2), "start" brake line (arrow) into hydraulic unit (threaded bore) first.
2. Bleed brake system; refer to WIS: AR42.10-P-0010GH.
3. Wrap fabric tape around area of fuel line rubber sheath (C, Figure 1) where it contacted the brake line.
Note:
^ Do NOT replace fuel line (C, Figure 1) if rubber sheath is damaged (chafed)
^ Proceed to step 4.
4. Install omega clip (A, Figures 4, 5) between fuel line (B, Figure 5) and brake line (arrows).
Note:
Observe installed position of clip (A) in respect to brake line (arrows) and fuel line (B).
