Notes:
When carrying out maintenance and repair work on the braking system, ensure that no mineral oil, grease, etc. is allowed to enter the brake system.
Fresh brake fluid must be used to flush and clean cylinders, lines and the expansion reservoir of the hydraulic brake system.
If mineral oil is detected or suspected in the brake system, proceed as follows:
1. Replace the tandem master brake cylinder and brake fluid reservoir.
2. Flush out the entire brake system thoroughly with fresh brake fluid.
3. All brake components with parts made of rubber, such as brake calipers, brake hoses, the ABS, ETS, ASR and ESP hydraulic unit, pressure reservoir, charge plunger unit and charging pump, which may have come into contact with mineral oil, must be replaced.
4. Bleed the brake system.
Treatment of ABS/ETS/ASR/ESP components on accident vehicles
If the extent of the damage to the vehicle or the position and external appearance of the hydraulic unit after the accident suggest that the hydraulic unit has suffered a severe shock, then it must be replaced.
Indications of this are e.g.:
- Kinked hydraulic lines
- Connections on hydraulic unit leaking
- Electrical cables or plug connectors damaged
- Metal block of hydraulic unit shows signs of damage
- Hydraulic unit detached from its bracket and cannot be easily reinstalled
Even if none of these are applicable, the system must nevertheless be subjected to a scrupulous function test, and the test steps for the solenoid valves and the pump must be carried out.
Preloading automatic cable slack adjuster
1. Model 140: lower exhaust system (only as far as necessary).
2. Turn detent eccentric bolt (g) to the left with Allen wrench (about 1/2 turn) and at the same time push to the rear in the slot until the spring-tensioned detent eccentric (b) engages in the spring clamp (d) with the raise section (h).
Release automatic slack adjuster
1. Use a screwdriver to raise middle spring clamp (arrow), when this is done the cable slack adjuster is automatically set.
