Removing, Installing Hot Film Mass Air Flow Sensor With Air Intake Pipe






Removing, installing


DANGER: Risk of injury to skin and eyes from scalding with hot coolant which splashes out. Risk of poisoning from swallowing coolant.

- Do not open cooling system unless coolant temperature is below 90°C. Open cap slowly and release the pressure. Do not pour coolant into beverage bottles. Wear protective gloves, protective clothing and eye protection.



1 Open cap of expansion reservoir (1) and release pressure


NOTE: 1-stage cap: Turn cap half a turn in the anti-clockwise direction, release pressure, and then unscrew cap.


2 Detach overflow lie (2) at expansion reservoir (7)
3 Detach coolant lines (3,4,5) at expansion reservoir (7)
- Collect coolant
- Refer to Special Tool below
- Refer to Commercially Available Tools below
- Refer to Commercially Available Tools below

4 Take off expansion reservoir (7)
5 Separate plug connection (6)
6 Remove expansion reservoir (7)
7 Detach vacuum hose of crankcase ventilation (8)
8 Unbolt air intake pipe (9) at cylinder head cover
- Unscrew bolt (9/1).

9 Take off hot film mass air flow sensor (B2/5) at air cleaner housing (10)
10 Use a screwdriver to press down lock of air intake pipe (11)
- Detach air intake pipe at top during this step.


CAUTION: Do not damage lock (11).


11 Remove resonance housing (12)
12 Remove air intake pipe (9) together with hot film mass air flow sensor (B2/5)
- Separate plug connection (13) for this step.

13 Install in the reverse order
14 Pour in coolant
15 Inspect cooling system for leaks
