INSTALL SHIM PLATES BETWEEN FRONT EXHAUST SYSTEM BRACKETS AND TRANSMISSION

This Service Campaign has been initiated because DCAG has determined that on the affected vehicles (see VIN range on the following page) the protective coating on the front exhaust system brackets may wear from vibration over time. Dealer will install shim plates between the front exhaust system brackets and the transmission to reduce wear to the protective coating.

Please review the Effective Serial Number chart located on the following page, and if necessary, repair the subject vehicles during the vehicle's next service.

Prior to performing this Service Campaign:
- Please check VMI to insure the vehicle is involved and to determine if the vehicle has been previously repaired.
- Please review the entire Service Campaign bulletin.

Approximately 45,633 vehicles are affected.

Effective Serial Number Range

NOTE:
Every vehicle in the VIN range may not be included in the campaign. VMI must always be checked before performing campaigns to verify that the campaign is required on a specific vehicle. VMI always overrides the bulletin in reference to a specific vehicle's inclusion in a particular campaign. Please also note that Recall and Service Campaigns do not expire and may also be performed on a vehicle with a vehicle status indicator.

Procedure
1. Raise vehicle on lift; refer to WIS document AR00.60-P-1000GZ for Model 164 or AR00.60-P-1000RT for Model 251.

2. Remove front exhaust system bracket bolts (A, Figure 1) from transmission on both sides of vehicle.

3. Install shim plates (B, Figure 1) between front exhaust system brackets and transmission.

- Install new front exhaust system bracket bolts (A) at transmission; torque bolts to 8 Nm, then tighten to 60 degree.

NOTE:
- The exhaust system bracket bolts must be replaced.

- Use a universal joint or swivel socket to torque the bracket bolts on the left side of the vehicle. When using this type of adapter or socket, do NOT approach the bolts at an extreme angle in order to avoid compromising the tightening torque.
