Corrosion of Mercedes Star in Distronic Plate





If you receive customer reports in the above model vehicles of corrosion of the Mercedes star (Figure 1) in the Distronic plate, replace the plate per the procedure outlined below to resolve.

1. Remove radiator grill. Refer to WIS document AR88.40-P-4001GZ (Model 164) or AR88.40-P-4001RT (Model 251).

2. Remove the corroded Distronic plate from the grill by releasing the catch hooks.





3. Apply adhesive/sealant to the outside of all catch hooks on the new Distronic plate (Figure 2).

Warning!
Insure sealant/adhesive does not contact the Distronic control unit A89. Use a clean cloth under the plate to prevent damage.





4. Clip the Distronic plate into the radiator grill (Figure 3).





5. Carefully apply sealant around the entire circumference of the Distronic plate from the inside (Figure 4).

6. Reinstall radiator grill with new Distronic plate.
