REPLACE CHARGE AIR HOSES (OM642 ENGINE)

This Emissions Recall Campaign has been initiated because DCAG has determined that the charge air hose may slip off the collar of the charge air intercooler inlet. This may cause the exhaust emissions values to degrade, the Check Engine" lamp to illuminate, and the engine to go into limp-home mode. Dealers will replace the charge air hoses.

Prior to performing this Recall Campaign:

^ Please check VMI to insure the vehicle is involved in the Campaign and if it has been previously repaired.

^ Please review the entire Recall Campaign bulletin and follow the procedure steps exactly as described.

^ Shown in this bulletin is a sample copy of a letter which owners of the affected vehicles will receive.

Approximately 1,198 vehicles are affected.

Procedure

1. Remove front bumper; refer to WIS document AR88.20-P-2000GZ.

Note:
Removing the bumper is necessary in order to properly torque the hose clamps.

2. Replace charge air hoses upstream and downstream of intercooler.

^ Replace air hose upstream of intercooler; refer to WIS document: AR09.41-P-8621GZB.

^ Replace air hose downstream of intercooler; refer to WIS document: AR09.41-P-8625GZB.

Note:
Torque the screw clamp on new hoses to 4 Nm.

3. Reinstall front bumper, again referring to WIS document AR88.20-P-2000GZ.

4. Check headlamp settings and adjust if necessary; refer to WIS document AP82.10-P-8260GZ.

5. Fill out Repair Label and affix on underside of hood next to existing emissions labels (as shown in Figure 1).

Note:
^ Ensure the surface is clean prior to affixing the label.

^ Use a ball point pen to fill in the label; do not use a marker or felt tip pen. Labels are available as literature through NetStar free of charge (order # P-BQ-AEM-LBL).

Note:
Step 6 is to be performed by California dealers only!

6. Print Proof of Correction form and fill out as shown in Figure 2.

Note:
The Proof of Correction form can also be found on STAR TekInfo under the "Forms and Test Sheets> Other Forms" heading.

^ Scan form and keep a copy for dealer records.

^ Hand form to customer or place in glove box.
