All Light Truck Models Equipped with Engine M272 or M273

Whining / High Pitch Whistle Noise Coming From Front of Engine





If you receive customer reports in the above model vehicles of a whining or high pitch whistle noise coming from the front section of the engine, this noise maybe caused by a faulty upper idler pulley. To resolve, replace the upper idler pulley with a new unit (Figure 1). The pulley is supplied as a package containing mounting bolt, dust cover and spacer. Fit the spacer between the timing case cover and guide pulley.

*Note:
The new pulley comes packaged with a black plastic spacer which is used to hold the pulley assembly together. This bushing is to be removed and discarded before installation.*
