^ The trailer is mechanically coupled.

Function sequence
The trailer's connecting line is hooked up to the AHV socket, 13- pin. The circuit of the left trailer turn signal lamp and the trailer stop lamps are briefly provided with voltage form the rear SAM control unit.

The rear SAM control unit detects a closed circuit for the turn signal lamp and/or the electrically connected trailer's stop lamps.

The rear SAM control unit sends the "trailer connected" CAN message over the Controller Area Network bus Class B (interior) (CAN-B).

The rear SAM control unit activates the actuation and monitoring of the trailer lighting system.
