Cracking Noises from Second Row Seat Backrest

If you receive customer reports in the above model vehicles of cracking noises emanating from the second row seat backrest while driving or when the backrest adjustment is operated, this may be due to the backrest hinge being insufficiently lubricated. To resolve, perform the following.

1. Identify which seat is making the noise.

2. Remove the rear seat backrest. Refer to WIS document AR91.12-P-1620RT.

3. Remove the cushions from the backrest. Refer to WIS document AR91.12-1030RT.

Caution!
Please pay special attention not to damage the backrest cushions when removing from the frame.





4. At the hinge, spray a small amount of lubricating oil between the adapter plate and hinge as shown in Figure 1.








5. Then spray a small amount of lubricating oil between the outer and inner plate on both sides of the hinge mechanism as shown in Figure 2 and Figure 3.

6. Reinstall backrest in reverse order.
