GF82.60-P-2003RTE Volume/Tone Adjustments, Function
- with CODE (527) COMAND APS (with navigation)
- except CODE (494) USA version
- except CODE (498) Japan version
The signal processing required for the volume and tone settings is accomplished by the COMAND operating, display and control unit (A40/3). If the vehicle is also equipped with the amplifier for the sound system (N40/3) (Sound System (code 810)) it provides for final application of the audio signals.
Audio sources are:
^ Radio
^ CD player
^ 6-disk CD changer (code 819)
Service sources include:
^ Voice output for navigation
^ Telephone
^ Traffic announcement
Volume
Different volume settings can be made for navigation and telephone. A common setting applies to all other modes. The set volume is automatically stored by the COMAND operating, display and control unit for the mode active at any given time. The volume of navigation instructions can only be adjusted during the output of an instruction.
Automatic volume control
The automatic volume control regulates the volume
^ depending on speed (in vehicles without sound system) or the interior noise in the vehicle (in vehicles with sound system) and for
^ additional parameters such as window open or closed.
Volume setting
The volume can be adjusted with the rotary pushbutton on the COMAND operating, display and control unit for each selected audio source as well as for voice output during navigation and in telephone mode.
The volume can also be controlled with the + and - buttons on the multifunction steering wheel when set to specific functions and volume control (S111s1)
After switching on again, the volume may be quieter than when switched off.
It is quieter if
^ the COMAND operating, display and control unit was switched off for longer than 15 minutes and
^ the volume was set to a value within a specific range (e.g. too loud) before switching off.
Muting
Pressing the "Speaker symbol" function key activates or deactivates the mute function.
If the mute function is switched on, then only traffic announcements and navigation instructions are audible.
Tone setting
The COMAND operating, display and control unit allows manual tone settings for each audio source.
The tone settings include:
^ Treble and bass
^ Balance/fader
^ Sound (for sound system only)
Treble and bass
Differentiated treble and bass control is possible with the following features:
^ Radio (AM, FM)
^ CD drive and CD changer
^ AUX mode
^ Navigation mode
Pressing the "Bass" or "Treble" soft key on the right of the multifunction key strip causes the display for setting the bass or treble to appear.
The bass and treble can be adjusted using the "left" and "right" arrow keys.
Pressing the "OK" button on the eight-way adjuster saves the set value. If the operator waits until the display changes, the value is also stored.
Component Identification:
Balance/fader
Pressing the "Bal/Fad" soft key on the right multifunction key strip causes the display for adjusting the balance and fader to appear.
The display shows a horizontal and vertical line which intercept. The horizontal line represents the fader and the vertical line, the balance.
The balance can be set using the "left" and "right" arrow keys, and the fader with the "up" and "down" arrow keys.
The setting is stored by pressing the "OK" button on the joystick or the "Back" soft key of the right multifunction key strip. If the operator waits until the display changes, the value is also stored.
The following modes have a separate balance and fader setting:
^ AUX mode
^ Navigation
SOUND
(for sound system)
Sound settings are possible with the following features:
^ Radio
^ CD drive and CD changer
^ AUX
The following settings are possible:
^ Manufacturer default settings, reset of sound functions to manufacturer default settings
^ Standard, conventional stereo playback
^ Language, playback optimized for voice output
^ LOGIC7, Surround playback
The arrow keys "Up" and "Down" can be used to select the desired setting. Pressing the "OK" button saves the setting.
The seven channel surround playback does not function with mono signal sources such as the AM wavebands in radio mode.
