GF91.60-P-4042RT Front Emergency Tensioning Retractor Component Description

Component Identification:

The driver/front passenger buckle emergency tensioning retractors with the attendant squibs (driver buckle ETR squib and front passenger buckle ETR squib) are located on each respective seat frame.

The emergency tensioning retractor takes up the belt slack in the event of
^ frontal collision,
^ a rear collision or a
^ rollover along the longitudinal vehicle axis,

and prevents any free travel, the so-called film reel effect of the seat belt.

The close-fitting seat belt means that vehicle occupants are exposed to the deceleration forces acting on the body at an earlier stage.

If the retractor is activated, the solid fuel is ignited by the squib. The resulting overpressure in the cylinder actuates a mechanism to pull back the seat belt buckle.
