GF07.16-P-2001GZ CDI Starting, Function

GF07.16-P-2001GZ CDI Starting, Function
ENGINE 642 in MODEL 164.1, 251.0, 164.8, 251.1 up to model year 2008
/YoM 07
ENGINE 642.9 in MODEL 463 up to 31.5.12

During start, Common Rail Diesel Injection (CDI) controls the following functions via the CDI control unit (N3/9):
^ Preglowing
^ Actuation of fuel pump (M3)
^ Start-ready glowing
^ Starter control
^ Synchronization of the injection sequence
^ Start-glowing
^ Start quantity control
^ Afterglowing

Preglowing
For the start it is necessary to heat glow plugs (R9) to a temperature, which heats the combustion chambers and which enables fuel to ignite at the designated time.

Actuation of fuel pump (except for model 463)
The CDI control unit controls the fuel pump using the integral fuel pump relay (F4kO) in the rear SAM control unit (N10/8). The following requirements must be present:
^ "Engine start" from the drive authorization system stage 3 (DAS 3)
^ Circuit 50 ON
^ Selector lever position "P" or "N"

Actuation of fuel pump (only for model 463)
The CDI control unit actuates the fuel pump via fuel pump relay (N10/2kA) integrated into the rear SAM signal acquisition and actuation module (N10/2). The following requirements must be present:
^ "Engine start" from the drive authorization system stage 3 (DAS 3)
^ Circuit 50 ON
^ Selector lever position "P" or "N"

Start-ready glowing
This guarantees that following pre-glowing, a sufficiently high combustion temperature is present until the engine starts.

Starter control (except for model 463)
The CDI control unit actuates the starter (M1) via the integral starter relay (F58kI) in the rear SAM control unit depending on the following information:
^ From the EIS control unit (N73), the start enable information from DAS 3
^ Circuit 50 ON
^ Selector lever position "P" or "N"

Starter control (only for model 463)
The CDI control unit actuates the starter via the starter relay integrated into the rear SAM signal acquisition and actuation module (N10/2) N10/1kSM1:
^ From the EIS control unit (N73), the start enable information from DAS 3
^ Circuit 50 ON
^ Selector lever position "P" or "N"

Synchronization of the injection sequence
To assign the injection sequence correctly to the cylinder concerned, the sequence is synchronized at the first revolutions of the engine. For detection of cylinder 1, the CDI control unit requires the signal from the camshaft Hall sensor (B6/1) and the signal from the crankshaft Hall sensor (B70).

Start-up glowing
During start, this function assists with the first working cycles and speeding up of the engine.
If no signal is supplied by the camshaft Hall sensor when the engine is started, the engine does not start.

Start quantity control
At engine start, the CDI control unit calculates the start quantity in line with the coolant temperature and engine speed and actuates the quantity control valve (Y94), the pressure regulator valve (Y74) and the fuel injectors (Y76) accordingly.

Afterglowing
This function assists with combustion by performance mapping following a successful engine start.
