Model 251 with Engine OM 642, MY 2008

Install Exhaust Bracket Reinforcement at Transmission

This Service Campaign has been initiated because Daimler AG has determined that a reinforcement of a bracket connecting the exhaust system to the transmission was not installed. In extreme driving conditions this exhaust bracket may break at the transmission. The dealer will install an exhaust bracket reinforcement at the next workshop visit.

Prior to performing this Service Campaign:

- Please check VMI to determine if the vehicle is involved in the Campaign and if it has been previously repaired.

- Please review the entire Service Campaign bulletin and follow the repair procedure exactly as described.

Please note that Recall and Service Campaigns do not expire and may also be performed on a vehicle with a vehicle status indicator.
Approximately 21 vehicles are affected.

Procedure





1. Remove bolts (arrows, Figure 1) securing front exhaust bracket (A) to transmission.

2. Install exhaust bracket reinforcement (B, Figure 1) in front of exhaust system bracket (A).

3. Install new bolts (arrows, Figure 1) and torque bolts to: 8 Nm then tighten 60 degrees.

NOTE:
Exhaust system bracket bolts must be replaced.

Repairs performed using any other part(s) will not have been performed in accordance with the campaign. Accordingly, warranty claims submitted with reference to an improper part number(s) will be denied.
