GF82.30-P-0003RT Wiper System (WSA), Function

General information
The wiper system controls the wiping and washing of the windshield and rear window. The wiper system comprises the following subfunctions:

Windshield
^ Windshield wiping
- Touch wiping
- Wiping with slow speed (approx. 40 cycles/min)
- Wiping with fast speed (approx. 60 cycles/min):
- Wiping at fixed intervals (without code (345) Rain sensor)
- Automatic actuation (with code (345) Rain sensor)

^ Wiper operation suppression
^ Wiper system automatic speed reduction
^ Washer nozzle-/washer nozzle hose heater
^ Windshield washing
- Windshield washing
- Automatic actuation of the headlamp cleaning system (with code (600) Headlamp cleaning system)

The antilock device, blockage detection, braking and stopping of the wiper arms in the end position are performed automatically by the wiper motor (M6/1) and front SAM control unit (N10).

Cancellation of front wiper functions:
Wiping is stopped immediately if the engine hood is opened while the vehicle is stationary.
The ATA [ETW] engine hood switch (S62) sends notification of this status to the rear SAM control unit (N10/8). This forwards the data over the Controller Area Network bus Class B (interior) (CAN-B) to the front SAM control unit (N10), which then interrupts the actuation.
The wiper function is continued under the following conditions:
^ Engine hood closed
^ Vehicle speed v > 8 km/h

Rear window
^ Rear window wiping
- Manual wiping
- Automatic wiping when reversing
^ Rear window wash

Rear window wiper
During forward travel, operation is manual using the combination switch (S4) in intermittent operation with a break of approx. 5 s.
During reverse travel, when the combination switch is used to activate the intermittent operation for the rear door wiper motor (M6/4), the same interval as for forward travel is automatically actuated.
If the rear wiper is not switched on, the rear wiper is actuated as follows for reverse travel depending on the front windshield wiper:
^ Automatic actuation to match rain intensity
- "Interval" (up to 31.5.06)
- "Interval 1" or "Interval 2" (as of 1.6.06)
^ Continuous wipe 1 and 2 at front
- The rear wiper is also actuated in the continuous wipe.

If the front windshield wipers are switched off, wiping is not actuated on the rear window.

After actuation of the rear door wiper motor, the rear SAM control unit sends the "Rear wiper in intermittent operation" signal to the instrument cluster (A1). The corresponding signal is displayed in the multifunction display (A1p13) of the instrument cluster.

Rear window wash
The "washing" function is activated by pressing the combination switch beyond the catch point.
The window washer fluid pump (M5/1) is actuated directly by the front SAM control unit. At the same time the rear SAM control unit actuates the rear door wiper motor.
