Indentations/Dings In The Roof Panel
If you receive customer reports in the above model vehicles when in bright sunlight indentations can be seen in the roof paneling, this may be caused by uneven bonding of the roof insulation. The front and rear insulation panels should be replaced as outlined below.
1. Remove headliner. Refer to WIS document AR68.30-P-4300GZ.
2. Remove roof insulation using a suitable tool.
IMPORTANT
Do not damage the painted surfaces!
3. Clean adhesive residues off the bonding surfaces.
4. Apply sealant (A001 989 63 20) cut approximately 2 mm off the tip of the adhesive cartridge so the bead will have a diameter of approximately 5 mm.
5. Apply the adhesive to the roof panel. Use the adhesive residue line from the old adhesive as a guide and place the new adhesive directly over the old line (see adhesive application guide Figures 1 through x).
6. Align roof insulation and press down gently. A vacuum cleaner can be used to create a vacuum necessary to press down the insulation evenly.
7. Assemble in reverse order.
Warning!
If the paint on the roof panel is scratched during the removal process, it must be repaired using primer stick A000 986 27 50.
Note:
The insulation is chamfered on one side. The chamfers should be positioned either at the front or rear according to the location of the insulation.
