Special Tools:
Component Identification:
1 Cut off cigarette lighter with ashtray illumination coupling (1.1) and cigarette lighter with ashtray illumination coupling (1.6) from front cigarette lighter with ashtray illumination electrical connector, insulate end of lines and strap down.
2 Cut off red/blue line (1.8), insulate ends of line and strap down.
3 Strip 15 cm of COMAND controller unit wiring harness (1) behind 7-inch Audio/COMAND display coupling (1.2) for the 7-inch Audio/COMAND display (arrow A).
4 Cut through the red/blue line leading to the 7-inch Audio/ COMAND display coupling (1.2) approx. 10 cm behind the 7- inch Audio/COMAND display coupling (1.2).
5 Insulate the red/blue line (2.1) leading to the 7-inch Audio/ COMAND display coupling (1.2) and strap down.
The red/blue line (2.2) is connected to the vehicle wiring harness at a later point.
6 Open covers of cable duct (3).
7 Plug telematics Controller Area Network coupling (data bus/ CAN bus) (CAN) of CAN lines from COMAND controller unit wiring harness (1) into free slot in telematics CAN potential distributor electrical connector (X30/35).
The CAN lines are recognizable by the brown 2-pin couplings and the black and black/white wiring harness colors.
8 Route COMAND controller unit wiring harness (1) to left front footwell CAN ground point (W15/6).
9 Close the covers of the cable duct (3).
10 Screw ground line of COMAND controller unit wiring harness (1) to left front footwell CAN ground point (W15/6).
11 Route white 7-inch Audio/COMAND display coupling and black COMAND controller unit coupling of COMAND controller unit wiring harness (1) through instrument panel into slot in COMAND controller unit in marked area (arrow B).
Route COMAND controller unit wiring harness (1) such that the operation of the kneebag and the steering is not affected.
Leave about 40 cm of COMAND controller unit wiring harness (1) protruding from slot in COMAND controller unit. The COMAND additional fan coupling must not be routed. This is connected to the COMAND additional fan at a later point.
12 Route COMAND controller unit wiring harness (1) along release cable (4) and fix in place with cable ties.
13 Form excess length of COMAND controller unit wiring harness (1) into loops in vicinity of left front footwell CAN ground point (W15/6) and fix in place with cable ties.
14 Remove black coupling (arrow C) installed in coupling (5) in place of COMAND controller unit coupling (1.3).
Removed black coupling (arrow C) is no longer required.
15 Install black COMAND controller unit coupling (1.3) of COMAND controller unit wiring harness (1) in coupling (5) of COMAND controller unit.
16 Route 7-inch Audio/COMAND display coupling (1.2) for the 7- inch Audio/COMAND display upwards through the opening in the center air duct (8) to the installation opening of the Audio/COMAND display.
17 Strip 10 cm of wiring harness behind the coupling (6).
The coupling (6) was connected to the removed 5-inch Audio/COMAND display.
18 Connect red/blue line (22) coming from 7-inch Audio/ COMAND display coupling (1.2) of the COMAND controller unit wiring harness (1) to the red/blue line of the coupling (6) with a black potential distributor (7).
19 Fix coupling (6) and black potential distributor (7) in place at COMAND controller unit wiring harness (1) with insulation tape.
