Campaign - Correct Underfloor Seam Seal

SUBJECT: Model 164, Model Year 2011

Correct Underfloor Seam Seal

This Service Campaign has been initiated because Daimler AG (DAG), the manufacturer of Mercedes-Benz vehicles, has determined that the underfloor crossmember seam seal may not meet specifications.

Dealers will correct the underfloor seam seal at the next workshop visit.

Prior to performing this Service Campaign:

^ Please check VMI to determine if the vehicle is involved in the Campaign and if it has been previously repaired.

^ Please review the entire Service Campaign bulletin and follow the repair procedure exactly as described.

Please note that Recall and Service Campaigns do not expire and may also be performed on a vehicle with a vehicle status indicator.

Approximately 24 vehicles are affected.

Procedure

A. Remove Center Heat Shield


1. For Models 164.156/186:





^ Remove center mufflers (circled, Figure 1); refer to WIS: AR49.10-P-7100GZA.

Note (regarding above WIS instructions):

^ Perform step 3 only.

^ Replace only nuts and bolts securing center muffler to front pipes (refer to parts table).

^ Remove screws securing heat shield then remove heat shield.

^ Proceed to subject B.

2. For Model 164.125:

^ Remove screws securing heat shield then remove heat shield.

^ Proceed to subject B.

B. Apply Seam Seal to Crossmember





1. Clean underfloor crossmember in area of hole (circled, Figure 2).





2. Seal and coat entire crossmember hole (circled Figure 2, refer also to Figure 3).

3. Assemble in reverse order.
