M78 Roof fan motor
Function
Depending on actuation from the roof ventilator switch (S163), a voltage is applied to the roof ventilator as from status "circuit 15 ON" via the electrical connector with plug contact. The voltage is forwarded to the roof fan motor. Applying a voltage induces current to flow through the winding integrated in the roof fan motor whereupon a magnetic field is generated around the integrated winding. The armature integrated into the roof fan motor then starts to rotate in the magnetic field and by doing so it causes the fan mounted onto the armature shaft with a circlip to rotate.
The roof fan motor's direction of rotation is determined by the coil circuit in the roof ventilator switch. This then enables the roof fan via the ventilator, grating and covering to admit or evacuate air from the vehicle's load compartment.
