Radio mode function sequence (AM/FM) The function sequence is subdivided into the following subfunctions:
^ Radio mode function sequence (AM/FM)
^ AM tuner function sequence
^ FM tuner with phase diversity function sequence

Radio mode function sequence (AM/FM)
The rear window antennas or the FM/AM/RRCL [FZV] antenna (A2/93a1) in the roof antenna module (A2/93) receive high frequency (HF) signals for the FM and AM radio frequency bands. The following useful signals relevant for the radio reception are modulated onto these HF signals:
- Music signals
- Speech signals
- Data signals (e.g. VICS signals for current traffic information)

The HF signals from the rear window antennas are forwarded via direct lines to the FM rear window antenna amplifier (A2/19) and from there to the roof antenna module. These two amplifiers filter the frequencies of the radio frequency bands out of the received HF signals and amplify them.

The amplified signals are then sent from the roof antenna module via the coaxial lines (FM, AM) to the tuner integrated into the COMAND operating, display and controller unit, demodulated and then undergo final amplification.

The demodulated audio signals in vehicles with code (810) Sound system are routed from the COMAND operating, display and controller unit via the Media Oriented System Transport (MOST) to the sound system amplifier (N40/3) where they undergo final amplification.

The audio is then output by the following speakers via direct lines:
- Left front door speaker (H4/5)
- Right front door speaker (H4/6)
- Left rear door speaker (H4/3)
- Right rear door speaker (H4/4)
- Left front door tweeter (H4/33)
- Right front door tweeter (H4/34)
- Left rear door tweeter (H4/35)
- Right rear door tweeter (H4/36)
- Center cockpit speaker (centerfill) (H4/27)
- Left rear surround speaker (H4/54)
- Right rear surround speaker (H4/57)

The audio signal for the subwoofer speaker (H4/29) travels from the COMAND operating, display and controller unit to the sound system amplifier via MOST and from there, over direct lines, to the subwoofer amplifier (N40/9) and then to the subwoofer speaker.

For vehicles except code (810) Sound system, the audio signals undergo final amplification by the COMAND operating, display and controller unit and then sent to the following speakers via direct lines:
- Left front door speaker
- Right front door speaker
- Left rear door speaker
- Right rear door speaker
- Left front door tweeter
- Right front door tweeter
- Left rear door tweeter
- Right rear door tweeter

AM tuner function sequence
In this radio frequency band, the useful signals are broadcast by means of amplitude modulation (AM). The AM tuner integrated into the COMAND operating, display and controller unit demodulates these signals. In other words, it separates the useful signals (audible frequencies) from the carrier signal (inaudible).

FM tuner with phase diversity function sequence
In this radio frequency band, the useful signals are broadcast using frequency modulation (FM). The FM tuner integrated into the COMAND operating, display and controller unit demodulates these signals. In other words, they also separate the useful signals (audible frequencies) from the carrier signal (inaudible). The COMAND operating, display and controller unit also switches between the antenna amplifiers, depending on the reception quality. This function runs automatically.

Disk function sequence
The disc function sequence comprises the following subfunction sequences:
^ DVD, CD or MP3 function sequence
^ AUX function sequence

DVD, CD or MP3 function sequence
A DVD drive is integrated into the COMAND operating, display and controller unit. The audio CDs or DVDs (including in MP3 format) are read in via the DVD drive and processed internally by the COMAND operating, display and controller unit. The user interface for controlling the disk functions (e.g. track selection) and for displaying supplemental information (e.g. track) is provided on the display of the COMAND operating, display and controller unit. On vehicles with code (810) Sound system, the audio signals are forwarded by the COMAND operating, display and controller unit via MOST to the amplifier for sound system where they undergo final amplification.

The audio output is then sent from the sound system amplifier to the following speakers via direct lines:
- Left front door speaker
- Right front door speaker
- Left rear door speaker
- Right rear door speaker
- Center cockpit speaker (centerfill)
- Left front door tweeter
- Right front door tweeter
- Left rear door tweeter
- Right rear door tweeter
- Left rear surround speaker
- Right rear surround speaker

The audio signal for the subwoofer speaker travels from the COMAND operating, display and controller unit to the amplifier for the sound system over MOST and from there, via direct lines, to the subwoofer amplifier and then to the subwoofer speaker.

In vehicles except code (810) Sound system, the audio output takes place directly over direct lines via the COMAND operating, display and controller unit and through the following speakers:
- Left front door speaker
- Right front door speaker
- Left rear door speaker
- Right rear door speaker
- Left front door tweeter
- Right front door tweeter
- Left rear door tweeter
- Right rear door tweeter

AUX function sequence
If an external device (e.g. MP3 player) is connected via the AUX jack and the "AUX" menu item is called up, the base screen is displayed.

Only 2 speaker symbols are shown in the playback field. Selection or settings via function bar:
- AUX
- No other submenus

- Tone
- Configuration of audio output

The menu navigation and display of the connection options are shown on the display of the COMAND operating, display and controller unit and are dependent on the particular portable terminal that is connected.

On vehicles with code (810) Sound system, the audio signals are forwarded by the COMAND operating, display and controller unit via MOST to the amplifier for sound system where they undergo final amplification.

The audio output is then sent from the sound system amplifier to the following speakers via direct lines:
- Left front door speaker
- Right front door speaker
- Left rear door speaker
- Right rear door speaker
- Center cockpit speaker (centerfill)
- Left front door tweeter
- Right front door tweeter
- Left rear door tweeter
- Right rear door tweeter
- Left rear surround speaker
- Right rear surround speaker

The audio signal for the subwoofer speaker travels from the COMAND operating, display and controller unit to the amplifier for the sound system over MOST and from there, via direct lines, to the subwoofer amplifier and then to the subwoofer speaker.

On vehicles except code (810) Sound system, the audio output takes place via direct lines by the COMAND operating, display and controller unit and over the following speakers:
- Left front door speaker
- Right front door speaker
- Left rear door speaker
- Right rear door speaker
